A Fishing Lesson

We took Sunny, our little RV, on an overnight stay to Bennett Spring the last weekend of September.  Let's see...I think it was Friday evening Sept 27 th, maybe?  Anyway, that Saturday was Ladies Fish Free day.

We got a great spot in the camping area up on the hill.  This was our view on the east, where we caught the sunrise.  I think that's my favorite part of camping; a leisurely morning get up.  I also like walking around to see the other camping outfits.  Some people get all jiggy with their camp site setups; flags and signs and lights.  Some of them have campfires going continuously.  Usually there are scads of pets and kids, but that wasn't true this time.

Anyway, we caught a fish each...except Ellen.  She left early for a date with a guy in her psychology class. That went well.  But this is a rabbit trail that I could go off on for another paragraph or two.

The fish just weren't striking much at any bait we tried.  But there was this guy across the river from us who was freaking annoying us by even being there because he was casting straight towards us, and the river isn't that wide, I could cast straight across it.  This guy was getting fish left and right.  Most of them he tossed back because they were too small.  Everyone up and down the river was giving him the side-eye because he was doing so well.  A guy next to Gail called over and asked what bait he was using.  He said it was homemade dough.  So Gary and I were googling recipes.  😂.

Later, after I'd left in the car, Gary and Gail happened to run into him and asked him about his bait.  He said it was some of the fish food they feed the trout on the farms.  He gets it, grinds it up and mixes it with cream cheese.  Hahaha...  But the fish know the smell as the food they always were fed, so they strike at it.

Well, nothing would do Gail but she order a little coffee mill and plan another fishing trip before the season ends.  😂. So she and Gary are going to Montauk State Park on the 19th, because Bennett Spring is under construction now and doesn't have any fish food available.  Unfortunately I have a vendor event that weekend and Ellen has an FBLA fundraiser event.  So we will have to wait and hear how it works.
