Sunset, and more about the Alpha Gal

Oh look. I’ve figured out how to get pictures into a blog post from my phone. Hooray!
Well. This will help me out tremendously because I don’t always have the time, patience, or access to blog from the laptop. Not to mention our internet is horribly spotty. Up and down all day long. Gary says if we weren’t getting it for free we would be looking for a different provider. Hmph!

At the moment, after midnight on this Friday night waiting on pins and needles for my child to get home from a trip to Springfield with friends, I cannot remember if I have talked about this in here before or not.

But this Alpha Gal Syndrome, while my case is supposedly mild, has morphed my system into some sort of histamine intolerance, or mast cell activation syndrome. This is not uncommon, according to what I read in the various AGS groups on Facebook. In a nutshell it means that every strong smell, from food to household cleaners and soaps, lotions, deodorants…whatever… gives me an allergic reaction. This has restricted my diet to low histamine foods, including leaving out foods that are supposed histamine releasers. It is a tediousness that I am tiring of, but the only real good side is that I am losing weight. Ha!

A low histamine diet basically means no leftovers, nothing canned or processed or prepackaged. There are a few fresh fruits and vegetables to avoid; namely tomatoes, bananas, legumes, tree nuts…ummm…I can’t think but there are more. Oh. Caffeine, coffee in general, and anything fermented.

So I eat lots of eggs, fresh veggies, salads and salad vegetables. Oh and of course the alpha gal allowed  poultry and fish…fresh or from frozen of course. Since I can’t eat leftovers, I freeze them and then thaw for lunch the next day.

And ever loving oatmeal. Usually for breakfast, but if I am still hungry in the evenings I’ll have a small bowl of oatmeal. It’s now the only “dessert” I have. I use turbinado sugar, raw sugar, to sweeten it. Honey is off the menu now…due to histamines, of course.

There’s more, but I’m going to crash for now. She got home safe. Whew!
