The Rest of the Story

Really, the rest of our mini vacation was fairly uneventful as far as unusual or unwanted occurrences.  We weren't at the cabin long enough to get that laid back vacation feeling, we kept on the move.  We went to 5 different shows there in Branson; one of which I enjoyed very much.  The rest of them appealed mostly to the others.  Ellen liked Reza the Illusionist, Gail liked the John Denver tribute guy, and Gary and I preferred the Clay Cooper show; he focused mostly on older country music.

The only other notable thing that really happened was there at the KOA.  I don't normally take just random photos of the KOA campgrounds simply for the fact that rows of cabins, RVs and/or tents aren't exactly exciting.  I didn't take photos of the campground this time, but I will set it up for you to tell this story.  We were about 2/3 of the way toward the back of the campground in a small row of cabins along the edge.  Across the road from us was a line of maybe 8-10 RV spots.  When we got there mid-week there were quite a few empty RV spaces, but by mid-day Thurs the spots were mostly full, and someone had erected a sign; Anderson Family Reunion.  Gary, as is his wont, talked to someone there and found out that there were at least 70 some Andersons camping for this reunion.  That afternoon, Thurs, we went to a show, then at about 6ish, I think, we headed straight over to The Landing to do a bit more shopping.  By the time we got back to the campground it was pretty much dark and we drove back in to find that the whole road had been taken over by Andersons.  They had a fire going in one of the fire pits, and had parked their folding chairs all over the road.  We had to wait for them to move their chairs before we could get through, and even then some of the teens just kept sitting on the side of the road.  It was rather disconcerting in the dark.  They stayed out there visiting until well into the wee-sma's.  I think Gail said she heard them until about 1 AM.

We had never heard of a family reunion being held at a KOA before, but we figure they probably take in a few shows, or do any number of family entertainment things there.  They have mini golf courses, a rock climbing/other indoor activities place and other places where you can do things as a family.   And of course there are all sorts of water sports and fishing and whatnot there on the lake.

I guess one other thing I noted was that it is a very conservative town.  Branson focuses on being family friendly, but it also is very patriotic.  We saw more than one Trump memorabilia store.  At every show they honor veterans by either having them stand and be recognized, or by playing a patriotic song, or both.  And at two of the shows the comedian cracked pro-Republican political jokes.  This surprised me because seeing as how their commerce has to be as much with Democrats as Republicans, I'd've thought they'd be more middle ground with their politics, or avoid it altogether.

Anyway.  We are already discussing another Colorado trip for next summer.
