Our Black Friday
Well, I am not doing well at blogging every day, am I? If I don't get it done almost first thing in the morning, I just don't get it done.
Yesterday we went down to Branson to take in the lights and a show or two at Silver Dollar City; all 4 of us; Gary, Ellen, Gail and myself. My phone camera is pretty pathetic so I'll have to post some of Ellen's pictures, if she shares them. It was cold last night, but it only got down to about 40 degrees; so not as cold as they predicted. We came prepared with multiple coats, hats, mittens, scarves...etc. We ate lunch before we went into the park, then we came back out at about 4 pm, went to the car and ate supper, then went back in to catch the lights. Food in there is so expensive. I am sure you can imagine.
We managed to get in to see their version of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol." Of course they had to edit it down a great deal to fit it into an hour's show, but it was great; the sets were very nice. The music, singing and dancing were really good as well. It is one of the best productions they have, and the most popular. We stood in line for a over 45 minutes to get in, the line snaked way down the hill. The theater holds 850, and it was full, so you can imagine what it was like standing in line for it. If all you want to do is people watch, that is a great place to do so. There were thousands and thousands of people there. And the funny thing is we actually saw so many grandparents with their grandkids. The grandparent couple in front of us while we were waiting in line had what looked like a 3 or 4 year old and a 3 or 4 month old. Ahead of them were a family of what looked like 3 generations; the grandparents with their daughter and 2 little girls. The littlest one was "Valerie," 2, maybe 3 years old, and she was obviously tired. All she wanted to do was play with the leaves on the sidewalk. When the line finally started advancing into the theater she kept squatting down in front of us and they had to keep hauling her up. Finally, when we got to the doors she just threw herself on the ground in a complete and full out, crimson-faced screaming fit. We, and everyone who'd been standing in line within several yards of her, flat out made for the other side of the theater. Even there we could still hear her screaming. Haha...
Later saw the Living Nativity, which was about a half hour show; no animals involved. But it was nice.
Then we wandered around, and caught the little Christmas Parade, with small floats...etc...etc. It is for kids, but it was cute.
Then we wandered back up the hill to the main Christmas tree, which must be several stories tall, not a real tree, but a fancy lights display that flashes to music. At the top of the hour it does a big fancy display to 2 or 3 Christmas carols. We watched that, then we headed out. It was a bit after 7 when we left.
A good time was had by all
